Superloop Founder and CEO Bevan Slattery delivered the presentation, providing an insight into both the technology and the enormous effort involved in laying an undersea fibre cable system across Victoria Harbour.
HKNOG was created for network operators to exchange technical and operational content, and other relevant information. The group's conferences allow for the free exchange of ideas, experiences and technical information. In contrast to the usual request for papers, HKNOG asked Superloop to make a presentation at its latest conference.
Mr. Slattery said Superloop has built advanced fibre networks in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong, as a leading independent provider of digital services in the Asia Pacific region.
During the design phase of the Company’s wider Hong Kong network rollout, critical network limitations at the Tseung Kwan O (TKO) Industrial Estate were uncovered. As a result, Superloop began investigating diverse paths between key data centres in TKO and Hong Kong Island in 2014.
"The concept of TKO Express as a truly geographically diverse path, enabling a lower latency route to support Hong Kong's Information, Communication and Technology, and Finance sectors was born," he said.
Heading the construction and implementation of Superloop's Hong Kong network is Project Leader, Susana Halliday, who has more than 20 years experience in the design and construction of infrastructure projects within the Asia Pacific region and has been involved in similar submarine telecommunications projects, including the the Hong Kong segments of SJC, EAC, FNAL, and AAG.
