Our core Hong Kong network will be transformed when commissioning of TKO Express is complete, expected by the end of March.
TKO Express, the first domestic submarine cable to link Hong Kong Island to the mainland, is a unique component of our core network. It is is the only truly geographically diverse path connecting Chai Wan and Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate (TKOIE), the New Territories’ emerging technology hub.
The short, low-latency path across Victoria Harbour fulfils the demand for high-speed, secure connectivity between the sites and extends our fibre roll-out in the metro area.
The first phase of our Hong Kong core network officially went live in December 2016. Encompassing 110 km, the network combines three campus loops - Chai Wan, TKOIE and Tsuen Wan - with diverse backbone links connecting the campuses. In anticipation of future bandwidth demand the network is comprised of two 1,000 core cables, making it our largest fibre core count deployment to date in the Asia Pacific region.
The growing network currently connects more than 20 data centres and enterprise buildings in Hong Kong, including Hong Kong Stock Exchange data centre, Equinix HK1, 2 & 3, Telstra Global, NTT and HK Colo, with over 30 initial buildings to be connected.
